Vikram heads the Motion Pictures business at Balaji Telefilms as the Chief Operating Officer. He is responsible for the business strategy and profitable growth of the motion pictures business and leads a team of talented individuals across the Commercial, Creative, Sales and Marketing functions. Balaji Motion Pictures and its latest youth entertainment brand, ‘Alt Entertainment’, are fast becoming strong contenders for the challenger position in the Indian movie industry and in a short span of 7 months, the business has seen a slew of new projects with top-notch directorial and acting talent as well as a critically and commercially successful debut of their first movie, ‘LSD’.
In his immediate preceding assignment as the Head of Worldwide Marketing of one of India’s premier consumer brands, Kingfisher Airlines, Vikram had led a team that is credited with creating India’s largest airline brand in just a little over 4 years of operations. From being rated one of the country’s most successful brand launches to being ranked right on top of the Buzziest brands pile, Kingfisher Airlines had climbed the success ladder with speed. While at Kingfisher Airlines, Vikram was also responsible for the digital business of the organization. Having been a consumer products sales and Marketing man in his career prior to Kingfisher Airlines, Vikram has helped in building successful brands and businesses at the erstwhile Lever-Johnson, retail internet at Tata Communications and beverages with The UB Group.
With a Bachelors degree in Commerce from the University of Rajasthan and an MBA from KJ Somaiya Institute of Management Studies & Research, Mumbai, Vikram, an avid sportsman and national level Tennis player in his college days, believes that the “battle of the future will be for the consumer’s mindspace and not the marketplace”. Vikram has impacted a slew of path-breaking initiatives in the process of building the Kingfisher Airlines brand – core sponsorship of the Toyota and now the Force India F1 team to give a global sheen to the brand, a strong Out-of-Home outreach programme and a focus on product innovation with results like Live TV in-flight etc that are now setting the gold standard for the airline industry.
Even despite hectic work schedules, Vikram finds sufficient time to pursue his two continuing passions – reading and gaming!
